ABOUT US Students for a Safer Southside is a group of undergraduate students from UC Berkeley that formed in 2005 to address alcohol and other drug-related problems in and around the campus area. Over the course of the past few years the students have taken four core courses of action around the issue of binge drinking at Cal: observation & monitoring of consumption behaviors at bars and open parties, campaigning for a Social Host Ordinance and Mandatory RBS (Responsible Beverage Service Training) in the City of Berkeley, a media campaign to bring awareness and education about binge drinking, and surveying fellow Cal students and community residents about alcohol. Students for a Safer Southside is entirely student-driven and is funded by a federal grant through the U.S. Department of Education. Our grant from the Department of Education is unfortunately over and we have not yet found funding to continue the project, therefore this site may not contain up to date information until further notice.
